Super Smash Bros Brawl Review...well kinda

I was having a look over my blog and apart from 2 post (Hot Damn! & Gaming Goodness From all 3 Fronts), I've not done any reviews. Well video game reviews. This is something I need to sort out.
And I am. With this. My review of Super Smash Bros Brawl on the the Wii.
But I won't be doing it yet. I want this review to show what I really think of this game. So I'm going to play it a bit more before I make any final comments.

But while you guys wait, I'll tell you what I'm testing the game on.
The main reason for this is to show I'm not using some sort of 14" Rear Projection telly from 1993. And can fully justify myself when I say anything about Graphics.
So the telly. It's Samsung and it a 37". It is capable of an HD output of 720p. And it has connection ports for SCART, Component and HMDI.
My Wii is currently using the Component port, my 360 is using the HMDI port and my PS2 (Yeah damn right I got a PS2) is set up via the SCART.
I have a Boardband connection which reaches speeds of up 16gb. But in a test of the speed it gets around 8gb.
Now that should make it clear that I won't being giving bad info on anything from the Graphics to the On-Line Gameplay. Sound is a slight problem. T.vs are never give a good sound quality as the game designers hope. But all the games I've played so far are good on that subject.

Last but not least I'll give a rought layout of my reviews.
  • The Game. A little background story (if any) and basically what the game is.
  • What I Expect. This I set down what I expect of the game. If it is a sequel then it will have to prove it is better then the last one. These expectation have to be met if it dreams of getting a high score in the "Overall" section.
  • Game Play. Speaks for it self.
  • Multi-Player. This will be based on local play (i.e two guys in the same room, on the same sofa battling it out).
  • On-Line Game Play. Like above, but also if there any other features (e.g Downloadable content)
  • Graphics and Sound. I'm not the best person to ask about Graphics. I would happily play REZ all day.
  • Overall impressions. Again say what it is on the tin. But this will be the most important section. It will be here where I give my score.

Now a quick not on scores. They will be based on a 10 out of 10 scale.
  • 10 meaning "You Must Buy This If You Haven't Done So. What. You don't own the console? Then buy it and the game, B**th!"
  • 5 meaning the game is average. "It's a good game. But thats all. If you have the money to spare buy it. If you don't then don't."
  • 0 being "Why on Earth, No in Hell Did I buy this B***ard game.
I'm not the kind of person that will give a 10 to every game. It might seem that way sometime, but thats only because I don't want to waste my money if possible on crappy games.
Hopefully that will clear up some of the scores I given in earlier posts.
I wasn't being nasty or stupid. Just truthful.

Any way I'm going to go Brawling. Review up next.

Hi. My name is Koobs and I'm addicted to video games.

Yes. I admit it. I am addicted. It's probably worst then being addicted to crack.
Seriously, I go and get cold sweats if I don't play something within 2 hours.
It's got so bad that I have to carry my DS everywhere with me. Today the battery died and I resorted to buying a game for my mobile. A bloody game for my mobile. There crap. But I needed my fix.
It turned out that it wasn't to bad a game. Loosely based on Track and Field, "Playman Summer Games 3" is alright. Sure I completed the amateur set in one sitting, it was still fun. And it has multi-player as well. Mobile games have come a long way since Snake.

But I have gone on a bit of a bing of gaming this month. Here's a look at the list:
Wii Fit (Wii)
The World End With You (DS)
Rez HD (XBox Live Arcade)
Bomerman Live (XBox Live Arcade)
We're not even half way thought the month and I already have four games.
As promised I will do a review for all the games I have and these shall be included.

But because I'm not in the writing mood right now, here's a quick run down of the games and why they got there score.
  • Rock band. 9/10 (Download able content expands the gameplay experience and multi-player is spot on.)
  • Paper Mario. The Thousand Year Door. 8/10 (Would of scored higher if it wasn't for the slow beginning. Also a bit worried about the re-playability.)
  • Grand Theft Auto IV. 9/10 (A game that has lived up to it's hype. Might get 10/10 after I try the multi-player)
  • Super Smash Bros Brawl. 4/10 (A game that didn't live up to the hype. Might as well of called it Super Smash Bros Melee 1.5. All that Brawl has that in my eyes that is different is a tacked on on-line gameplay. Oh and the graphics have been amped up a little.)
If you have problem with the scores I've given drop me a line. As you can see one the right >>>
There are many ways to get in touch. Or leave a comment. But don't argue if you don't have something to back it up. I don't wanna hear GTA IV is crap cos its only on the 360 and PS3.
That's just being stupid.
Anyway I'm going to go and try and complete some of these games.

Oh my goody goody gosh!

Oh my words.
I'm a massive fan of Chrono Trigger. It was a great game on the SNES that like many of the great games on the SNES was not released in the U.K.
One thing I hate more then delays is games not being released at all.
Games such as Earthbound and Chrono Trigger are prefect examples. They are good games. They where recived well in the US. Why the hell weren't they released over here?
If you wondering how I played them then I'm not ashamed to say it. I got them as roms.
I think a bit more explanation is needed about Roms. So when something needs more explanation what needs to be done?

That's right. It's time for Ice 101.
Lesson #003 Roms and Emulation

Very basically it is the a way to play Video Games on a P.C or certain Games Consoles (360 comes to mind). The main consoles that have become emulated are the NES, SNES, Game Boy Advance and Playstation.
Now to be able to do anything you need to have an Emulator. This is a program that acts as the console. Next you need the Roms. These act as the actual games. Now when the two are separate they are are rubbish, you can't do anything at all. But together they could give you hours of fun.
There is a but however. Roms aren't exactly legal. Yeah that's right I'm a criminal. Well I was. I haven't played a Rom in years. And when I did it was only to play games like Chrono Trigger.
But yeah that's that.

By the way you might be wondering what bought this on. This bought it on. To the untrained eye it means nothing. But to me. The clock is the clock from the start of Chrono Trigger. The sound is the from the start of Chrono Trigger. Its from Square Enix, which use to be Square, who released Chrono Trigger.
By my calculation what ever it is counting down to, will be done in around 432000 seconds. Thats 7200 minutes. Thats 120 hours. Thats 5 days.
Oh man, oh man, oh man. I can't wait till this is over. I think I know what it is for. I believe that it's for the re-release of Chrono Trigger on the Nintendo DS. I prey to god that that is the case.
I think I've rambled on for long enough. I just can't wait. Oh come five days hurry up and go by already.

The impatient Ice Koobs
